Catherine Fisher was born in Newport, Gwent and worked as an archaeologist and a teacher before becoming a writer. Her first children’s novel was The Conjuror’s Game, described by Catherine as ‘a book about doors, about where they lead, whether you should open them and what might happen when you do.’
Catherine has received massive acclaim for her fantasy titles, particularly The Snow-Walker’s Son Sequence; The Snow-Walker’s Son, The Empty Hand and The Soul Thieves.
Catherine Fisher has also had a number of novels shortlisted for awards including the Smarties and W H Smith Mind Boggling Books Awards. Her book The Candleman won the Welsh Books Council Tir Na n’Og prize.
She is also a published poet and has received a number of awards for her poetry. Her first book of poems Immrama won the Welsh Arts Council Young Writers Prize for 1988 and in 1989 she took first prize in the Cardiff International Poetry Competition.
