Thomas Bloor grew up in Chingford, at the far north-eastern edge of London. He took a degree in fine art and has worked as an artificial flower maker, a school librarian, an art technician, a special needs assistant, a reader for a literary consultancy and an adult education tutor.
He showed paintings and wall pieces in local art galleries in London, made some lo-fi animated films, wrote songs and played in a band. Since the year 2000 he has had seven novels for young people published, winning the Fidler Award for The Memory Prisoner, the Stockton Children’s Book Award for The House of Eyes, and the Calderdale Children’s Book Award for Worm in the Blood, which was also short-listed for the Bolton Children’s Book Award and the Highland Children’s Book Award.
Thomas’s latest book, Heart of the Serpent, is the stunning conclusion to the series that began with Worm in the Blood and continued with Beast Beneath the Skin. He is married with two daughters and lives in Walthamstow, which is not far from where he grew up.
